As the High School Men’s Volleyball season is coming to an end, a surprising underdog has risen from the ashes from the West Catholic League, Valley Christian. After stumbling out of the gates and starting the season 0-4, the Warriors have gone 8-4 since then, and have reached a eligible record for CCS. With exciting tournament wins at the Willow glen, and Los Gatos tournaments the Warriors are upset minded especially with the amazing play by Junior Setter, Cameron Ponce, and Sophomore sensationBrendan Fleming. What is the key behind the current success? I asked Andrew Saenz, a new addition to the team this year, “We all really like each other, and want to play our teammates. Our coach keeps us loose in practice and reminds us we are a brotherhood.” The occurring theme that has been implemented by Coach Tyler Rigg, and the rest of the coaching staff is, I AM SECOND. “I Am Second to me is playing for Christ, and also playing for the guys next to me. This is my first year on varsity and I already have a special bond with this team I’ll never forget.” (Britton Hauseman). The season is winding down with big games coming up the Warriors are ready to qualify for CCS and make a deep run into the playoffs, with of course having a blast.
